Review: Samsung Galaxy Chat – GT-B5330

Why to Buy:
This phone is a good option for touch and type users. Its battery life is good, comes with Android 4.0 version and is upgradeable to latest Android 4.1 Jelly Beans.
Why to Avoid:
Its 2 megapixels camera is poor. Its RAM is less that delays in multitasking and swapping applications.
Our Take:
At price of Rs. 8,660 this is a good buy for youth as it is filled with many latest features and its plus point of touch and type. But those looking for good camera and fast processing speed might take a look at our other reviews.

Detailed Review

Design:
Samsung’s new launch “Galaxy Chat” is a touch and type Android smartphone. In this price range, it has plenty to offer more than its competitors. The design is unique and simple to operate. The dimensions of this device are 118.9mm, 59.3mm and 11.7 mm in height, width and depth. Its screen size measures 3 inches diagonally and is a multi touch display with TFT capacitive touchscreen display type. The phone is all in plastic body material, which feels good and is well textured too. It is handy and easy to carry.

The right side of the device holds a power/lock key but lacks with a dedicated camera key. The left side hold the dedicated volume control key whereas, the 3.5mm earjack is placed on its top. The bottom is left bare with just USB connector. Above the screen of Galaxy chat is an earpiece with proximity sensor and below the screen are Android touch keys for Home, Back and Menu. Below this is a full QWERTY keypad. On its back side is a 2 Megapixels camera lens and loudspeaker grill. The phone is light in weight of just 112 gm. The Samsung Galaxy chat is a strong build phone that fits best in your hand.
Interface/Operating System:
The good part of this phone is that it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and can be upgraded to latest Android 4.1 Jelly Beans through software upgrade. This operating system suits this phone the best and the spontaneous Touch Wiz interface works great and is easy to access. But, multitasking and swapping applications is not easy because of it slow processor.
Features:
Samsung Galaxy Chat in this price range offers multiple features and access to various applications. It comes prepared with Social Hub which is a one stop solution for communication needs. It comes in-built with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. and the famous ChatOn with a dedicated key on its QWERTY keypad. which gives you access to stay in touch with multiple features like multimedia content sharing, group chats and animated images. FM stereo with RDS also exist in Galaxy Chat that updates you with latest news and many FM stations. The Android 4.0 operating system suits this phone the best and the spontaneous Touch Wiz interface works great and is easy to access. But, multitasking and swapping applications is not easy because of it slower RAM. The screen resolution is low and it has no adobe flash support. The phone comes with NO secondary camera but, that cannot be complained in this price range. For connectivity it has a Bluetooth BT 3.0 HS, USB for mass storage and PC connection, Android Internet HTML Browser, Wi-Fi and aGPS support with GLONASS. It comes with many basic features like; calendar, organizer, calculator, etc. all are in-built. Overall, the phone is worth money but lacks with few advancements that could have made it the best in this price range.

Camera:
This is probably the weakest section of Galaxy Chat. It comes with a normal 2 megapixels camera lacking with auto focus and LED flash. It lacks with a dedicated camera key too. We were expecting a minimum of 3.2 megapixels camera for this device as many of the devices in this price range offers it. But, the image quality from its 2 megapixels camera is good but with proper lighting and good hand. You can share the images clicked to Social networking Sites straightaway and that is the good thing about this phone.

Battery:
For the long lasting and never ending experience, the Samsung Galaxy Chat comes with a 1200 mAh standard Li-Ion battery. When tested, the battery showed good results. The Talk Time it delivered was up to 13 hours on 2G and up to 5 hours on 3G. Web browsing, multitasking, swapping applications and downloading discharges the battery fast. The stand by time it delivers is up to 460 hours on 2G and up to 350 hours on 3G. Overall performance of the battery is good and it takes less time to get charge.
Memory:
Galaxy Chat is a treat for memory. It gives you 4 GB inbuilt memory space which can be expanded to 32 GB using a micro SD card. It has a powerful 850 MHz processor with 512 MB RAM. The micro SD card space is under the back cover of the phone.
Conclusion:
Samsung Galaxy Chat is a good mid range smartphone with touch and type facility and lot many exiting features. The famous ChatOn service comes with a dedicated key on the keypad. It lacks with camera’s dedicated key, poor 2 megapixels camera and slow processor. The design of this phone is good and is well constructed too. So we give this phone 3.5 star rating.
